PAPER AND SHADOW

My name is Kim, and I explore the human act of being, feeling, and remembering through watercolour, graphite and paper media.

My work is rooted in our relationship to nature, to each other, and to expression itself. It’s about slowing down, paying attention, and making meaning from the small and the significant (whether it’s a feeling, a memory, or a story, I make it visible);

about pausing long enough to notice what matters: the texture of a memory, the feeling behind a gesture, the thread between people and the natural world.

Though I didn’t take the traditional path into fine art, I’m realising this might be the most honest thing I’ll ever do.

Harvey, Sleepy

Captured in graphite with intricate detail and flowing texture is our resident quality controller.

The strong negative space pulls your eye to the soft, meticulous rendering of Harvey’s fur and that unmistakable sleepy gaze before a warm nap.

Bapu 2

The second piece in this portrait series came nearly 7 years after the first. I was curious to see how things might differ, and found a balance between planning and letting curiosity lead.

It was sparked by a photograph of an older man, quietly in his own world, yet somehow meeting my gaze through the lens. I wanted to recreate that moment in watercolour, adding the small, absent-minded gesture of him twirling his moustache. It felt like the perfect piece to play with contrast and complement — warm skin and background tones, set against cooler notes in the turban — while also testing out a few techniques I hadn’t used in a while. Looking back, I can see how my approach has changed over time: a little more looseness, and a little more trust in the process.

Lately, I've been focused on what I call The Human Act: What it means

to experience, what it means
to feel, what it means
to celebrate, what it means

to be authentically in this world, in this time.

My commissioned pieces hold space for other people’s meaning: what they choose to preserve, honour, or remember.

My original works are where I explore this meaning for myself.
