BAPU 2

The second piece in this portrait series came nearly 7 years after the first. I was curious to see how things might differ, and found a balance between planning and letting curiosity lead.

It was sparked by a photograph of an older man, quietly in his own world, yet somehow meeting my gaze through the lens. I wanted to recreate that moment in watercolour, adding the small, absent-minded gesture of him twirling his moustache.

It felt like the perfect piece to play with contrast and complement: warm skin and background tones, set against cooler notes in the turban, while also testing out a few techniques I hadn’t used in a while.
