My name is Kim, and I explore the human act of being, feeling, and remembering through watercolour, graphite and paper media.
My work is rooted in our relationship to nature, to each other, and to expression itself. It’s about slowing down, paying attention, and making meaning from the small and the significant (whether it’s a feeling, a memory, or a story, I make it visible);
about pausing long enough to notice what matters: the texture of a memory, the feeling behind a gesture, the thread between people and the natural world.
Though I didn’t take the traditional path into fine art, I’m realising this might be the most honest thing I’ll ever do.
Bapu 3
In the last of the set, this Bapu has a soft smile, but an unapologetically piercing stare. The viewer is as much the focus of the painting as he is. With his chin on his hands, like he has all the time in the world, he playfully turns the conversation back to you, as if saying “… and you? Tell me about you.” A question we never quite know how to answer in the moment.

Mischief
My dad is incredibly artistic, too - I get it from him. Living in the Eastern Cape, his second back garden is the Addo Elephant Park. He’s taken the most incredible photos there, including the one this work was inspired by: 3 little calves, seemingly conniving.
